Hey, I'm Kate!

EDINBURGH DOCUMENTARY STYLE & 35MM FILM PHOTOGRAPHER

I photograph feelings.

If you’re looking for an Edinburgh wedding photographer who captures the real moments - not stiff poses or forced smiles - you’re in the right place.

I'm a documentary-style, photojournalistic photographer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I capture relaxed weddings, intimate city or highland elopements, couples and families utilising an archival reportage approach meaning your story is documented as a true reflection of who you really are and what happened.

I love capturing photos that stop time, like catching someone's real laugh or the sparkle of their eyes or the way their hand wraps around yours. Not just the highlights, everything in between. I want you to have natural and authentic photographs that reflect how life really was; honest imagery that remembers how it felt.

My work is whimsical and romantic yet bold and editorial blending candid emotion and natural moments with intentional storytelling. I choose to photograph feelings so that your photos are real, intimate and cinematic. I don't just take photos, I archive emotion, I photograph feelings.

THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT WORDS TO ME

A black and white intimate portrait of a couple embracing in a tender moment as they smile and hug.
scotland documentary style photographer

As a documentary-style, photojournalistic photographer I want to get to know who you are at your soul level, weaving a story that is authentic to you with both digital and nostalgic 35mm film photography. With everything I create I try my best to encapsulate these three words; real, intimate and cinematic.

The photoshoot has to be real. Authentic, genuine emotion that isn't always perfect, but is always beautiful. It has to be intimate, to get to the heart of you. It has to be cinematic, telling a story woven together in scenes from little moments to big climaxes.

But why intimate, cinematic and real? Because together, these three things, make my work deeply human and allow me to photograph feelings not just photos.

35mm film photography scotland

A warmth and nostalgia that can't be replicated.

Taking photographs on film asks us as artists to slow down, pause, and observe. Limited shots per roll mean when it's taken on film, it's an image that deserves the honour. As a photographer in Scotland offering 35mm film photography I love adding analogue photography alongside more modern digital photography to add a depth to your gallery that can't be replicated by modern technology.

Relaxed, Documentary Wedding Photography in Edinburgh & Scotland

I. Who am I for?

Although I’m based in Edinburgh, I photograph weddings all across Scotland and the UK. I am for people who want feelings captured, not perfect moments. For people who are happy to try new things, are comfortable showing emotion, and who love candid realness. A love for imperfection is a must because documentary-style photography lends itself to capturing the beautiful in-between.

II. What will it be like?

As a documentary style photographer in Scotland you'll find me fusing storytelling techniques with editorial posing I'll guide you with movement prompts in order to bring out the authentic you and tell a story with your photographs. I'll step in and guide you to better light or angles when needed. Sometimes, to achieve certain elements of a story I'll step in to direct your positioning. I want it to feel as though we're old friends spending time together so that you can relax. That way, your photos will hold the energy of the moment and feel real.

III. How about the end results?

You'll get photos that feel authentic. Photos that have captured a feeling. A beautiful blend of natural documentary-style, cinematic drama and luxury editorial photography. Images that are filled with moments of joy, secret smiles, in-between glances, true double chin laughter, and ugly crying. You'll get photographs that one day will be the most important thing you own and that you can pass on to the next generation. “Working with Kate was an absolute dream! She made the whole process so easy and enjoyable. We had a few calls beforehand where she really took the time to understand the vibe we were going for and to make sure everything was aligned. I curated a Pinterest board, and Kate was so thoughtful about incorporating those ideas while also bringing her own creative touch. She instantly understood our vision and made us feel so confident.”
