Documentary Style, Cinematic Wedding & Elopement Photography Scotland

What does this look like on your wedding day?

If you don't resonate with traditional photography, then I might be for you. I fuse a documentary-style, photojournalistic approach with cinematic photography to capture real, intimate and editorial worthy images on digital and 35mm film. This means I often shoot unobtrusively, capturing things as they unfold. But, I also get involved in your day laughing with guests and secretly snapping them whilst they tell me why they love you. This means real laughs, spilled drinks, ugly crying, and bear hugs. It's real and raw and imperfect. But by fusing this approach with editorial photography, a more curated approach, we pull together moments that feel like a perfectly woven story or movie. These are the moments where I will direct you and guide your positioning more in order tell the story, but always in a way that feels relaxed and natural. Together cinematic and documentary style photography fuse in to photographs that capture a feeling, not a perfect moment.

What do you need to do?

Most of the time, nothing! Just trust me. We'll do all the planning before your day so that you can just be present. In the planning stage, please ring fence time in your schedule for key photographs that you would like such a family groups or portraits of you both. Photos are part of the experience of getting married, they are fun and playful. Don't think they detract from your day, they actually allow you to be close with the most important people you love, so give them the time they deserve.

Do you photograph the type of wedding I'm planning?

I photograph it all. As a Scotland wedding and elopement photographer I am well practiced in capturing a variety of different wedding styles. From chic Edinburgh or Glasgow city elopements, to luxury Scottish castle weddings, and wild Scottish Highland elopements. I am an Edinburgh wedding photographer but I travel Scotland and UK wide for weddings and elopements. I'll travel to Glencoe, Glasgow, Skye or anywhere else you want me!

Have you considered my editing style?

As a Scotland film photographer my digital editing style leans in to vintage film tones to create a timeless, classic edit that sits beautifully alongside the 35mm film photography I offer. It's firmly rooted in cinematic colouring so expect blue shadows, warm highlights and a little grain. I'm partial to a black and white too, when it suits the energy of the photograph. As I shoot predominantly in Scotland, where we are not blessed with glorious sunshine often, you'll notice that my work feels softer, cooler and darker. Some refer to it as moody, but typically my subjects are anything but.

What will your final gallery be like?

Your final gallery will be broken down in to sections of your day. It will be filled with lots of candids of your guests so you can see who chatted to who, key moments as they unfolded, and sumptuous photographs of you both.

As a LGBTQIA+ friendly photographer Scotland, your love is always welcome here.

frequently asked questions

FAQs

Do you travel for weddings?

I'm an Edinburgh wedding photographer but I will happily travel all over Scotland and the UK for any wedding or elopement. I don't charge for travel or accommodation in Scotland (I've got a wee camper van) but further afield we can discuss your plans as I may need a hotel room!

What is a second shooter?

Some weddings are BIG! And one photographer can't be everywhere at once. Who's capturing groom prep if I'm with the bride? The second shooter. If you'd like one, let me know and I can get one organised. Typical rates for a second shooter are £300 for a full day. I would edit their photographs, so your gallery is a consistent style.

How do I book with you?

If you like what you see send in an enquiry through my contact form or an email at kategodfreyphoto@gmail.com - I'll confirm availability, we can chat details (over video), and if you're happy you confirm your booking by signing a wee contract and paying a 20% deposit. Exciting!

Are there any hidden costs?

Not at all! My prices are what they are. I'll take your photographs, I'll hand edit them all, and you'll get them in a digital gallery to download. From there, do what you please with the photos. You can use the digital files to create fine art prints or an album! Additional hours coverage, second shooters, re-edits, pre-wedding shoots are all charged at an additional cost.

Can I ask you something else?

I know I'll not have covered all your queries here, so feel free to drop me a line by using my contact form or by emailing me at kategodfreyphoto@gmail.com - I'm always happy to answer any questions!
