A Couples or Engagement Photoshoot in Scotland is always a good idea - here's why!

There’s something undeniably magical about Scotland - the way the light rolls across the hills, how the air feels alive with history, and how every landscape seems to tell a story.

As a couples and engagement photographer based in Scotland, I’ve built my work around capturing that magic - not just in the scenery, but in the connection between two people as they explore our glens, our cobbled streets, our magical mountains together. Maybe Scotland is your home or maybe it's somewhere you're exploring together for the first time, either way I'd love to give you the greatest souvenir you can take home - memories!

My approach is simple: I photograph feelings. That means your story, your emotions, and your connection come first, always. I understand that if you’re searching for an Edinburgh couples photographer or a Scotland engagement photographer, chances are you’re not just looking for pretty photos. You’re looking for something deeper - images that feel like you. That’s exactly what I aim to create.

More Than Just Photos - A Whole Experience

When couples work with me, it’s not about stiff poses or forced smiles. My style is cinematic yet documentary in nature, meaning I blend the artistry of film-like composition with the honesty of real life. I gently guide when needed, but mostly, I let moments unfold naturally. The quiet glances, the laughter that catches you off guard, the way your hands find each other without thinking - these are the moments that matter.

I want you to feel completely at ease in front of the camera. Because when you’re relaxed, present, and connected, that’s when the magic happens. My job is to create a space where you can simply be yourselves, while I capture everything that makes your relationship unique. We'll plan your session together, I'll help you choose a location that best showcases your relationship. Whether that be a cosy old pub, a rugged mountain top, or a cute little alleyway in the centre of Old Town. Read on to hear about some of my favourite places to shoot!

Edinburgh: Romance in Every Corner

As an Edinburgh couples photographer, I’m constantly inspired by the city’s rich textures and timeless atmosphere. Edinburgh offers an incredible variety of backdrops for engagement sessions, each with its own distinct mood. I'm from Edinburgh, I was born here and have lived here my whole life so you can trust that I know of all the secret little spots.

The historic charm of the Old Town, with its cobbled streets and dramatic architecture, creates a cinematic setting that feels straight out of a love story. Arthur’s Seat offers sweeping views and golden light that adds a sense of adventure and intimacy. Princes Street Gardens provides a softer, more romantic feel, especially during golden hour when the light filters through the trees. Or some lesser known gems, that I won't reveal here, you'll have to book me first for your Edinburgh couples photoshoot to find out the secrets I have!

Whether you’re drawn to iconic landmarks or hidden corners of the city, Edinburgh is perfect for couples who want a blend of history, architecture and the beauty of nature. And no matter where we shoot, the focus remains the same - you, your connection, and the way you feel together in that moment.

Glencoe: Wild, Dramatic, Unforgettable

If you’re dreaming of something truly cinematic, Glencoe is hard to beat. As a Scotland engagement photographer, Glencoe is consistently my favourite place in the whole of Scotland because it's the kind of place that takes your breath away. The landscape here is raw, powerful, and deeply emotional - it elevates every moment.

Towering mountains, mist rolling through the valleys, and ever-changing light create an atmosphere that feels almost otherworldly. Glencoe is perfect for couples who want their photos to feel epic yet intimate, where the vastness of the landscape contrasts beautifully with the closeness of your connection. There's lots of access points that don't require much hiking. But there's also some epic views for those who don't mind putting in the work to get to the more hidden locations.

But what makes Glencoe special isn’t just how it looks - it’s how it feels to be there. There’s a sense of stillness, of presence, that naturally brings people closer together, I honestly love nothing more than capturing photographs here.

The Highlands, Coast, Castles and Beyond: Endless Possibilities

Beyond Edinburgh and Glencoe, the Scottish Highlands offer endless opportunities for breathtaking engagement sessions. From the rugged coastline of the Isle of Skye to the lochs and rolling hills further north, there’s no shortage of incredible locations. Even closer to Edinburgh you have the Cairngorms National Park which is stunning and typically quieter than places on the west. Maybe you'd like a beach? Or a castle? Or a castle on a beach? I've got a huge list of spots that are honestly magical. Some that I've never shot in before and I'd be THRILLED to shoot there and keep it between you and I.

Each place has its own personality. Some are wild and untamed, others quiet and peaceful. Some feel grand and dramatic, while others feel soft and intimate. The beauty of choosing a Scotland engagement photographer is that you’re not limited to one type of setting - you can choose a place that truly reflects your story. Whether it’s a windswept beach, a hidden forest, or a mountain overlook, I’ll help you find the perfect location to match your vision. And more importantly, I’ll help you feel comfortable and connected within it.

Your Story, Your Way

One of the things I love most about what I do is that no two sessions are ever the same. Every couple brings their own energy, their own story, and their own way of connecting. My role is to tune into that and reflect it back through my images.

Some couples are playful and full of laughter. Others are quiet and deeply intimate. Some want to run through the hills, while others prefer to sit together and watch the light change. However you are, that’s exactly how your photos should feel.

I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I create a personalised experience for every couple, ensuring that your session feels natural, meaningful, and true to you. I do this through having a call with you to discuss your session, issuing you an in-depth questionnaire to get to know you better, and taking time during your session to just notice how you move with one another. Being a couples photographer in Scotland is literally the highlight of the work I do, I love it more than anything else. You can trust that your session will be treated with care and one hundred percent joy.

I Photograph Feelings

This isn’t just a motto - it’s literally the foundation of everything I do.

Years from now, I don’t want you to just look at your photos and think, 'that was a beautiful place'. I want you to feel something. I want you to remember how it felt to be there, together, in that moment. The nervous excitement before the shoot begins. The way you relax as you realise there’s nothing to worry about. The laughter, the quiet moments, the way you hold each other a little closer as the light fades.

These are the things that matter. These are the things worth capturing.

Why Choose a Scotland Engagement Photographer?

Scotland isn’t just a backdrop - it’s part of the story. The landscapes here have a way of bringing out something deeper, something more honest. They encourage you to slow down, to be present, and to connect - not just with each other, but with the moment itself.

As a Scotland engagement photographer, I understand how to work with these environments. I know how to use the light, the weather, and the landscape to create images that feel both cinematic and real. And I know how to help you feel comfortable and confident, no matter where we are. It's a skill that's taken me years to hone, to work with the difficulties Scotland can present (rain lol) and make absolute freaking magic from it all. Trust in my experience, trust in the magic I will make for you. I promise, you won't find an Edinburgh couples photographer or Scotland couples photographer more passionate than I am!
